Editing Tips:
- A page should have between about 100 words and 500 words.
- Brighten up your website with pictures. If you don't have any you can choose from our stock images.
- Blank pages that just say 'Coming Soon' or 'Under Construction' are ignored by the search engines and frustrating for visitors. Add a page only when you have the information ready.
- Search engines read the words on the pages of a website to find out what it's about. Make sure to use the wording that customers are searching for - and put these words in the Title of the page.
- Use the same structure, lettering size and colour for all of the pages in your website, or it can be very jarring and distracting to visitors.
- We highly recommend sticking to black text on a white background - this is proven to be the easiest to read. Making a whole paragraph or whole page with a large, bold, coloured lettering can be tempting to make your website stand out, but it just looks unprofessional. Stick to using bold and different colours very sparingly for emphasis.
- Search engines might send someone to a page other than your home page. Treat each page like an independent document so visitors quickly know where they are.
- You can protect any page with a password, so only the people you want to see it can see it.
- A friendly, direct, conversational writing style works best on the Internet.
- Be specific, concrete, and to the point because people usually will just skim a web page.
- Avoid promotional language, the search engines ignore it, and it's frustrating to a reader looking for specific information. Which would you take more seriously: a company saying they are great, or one of their customers saying the company is great?
- Be careful with spelling and grammar to avoid looking sloppy.
